Born in
Tehran in 1944. Died on Dec. 5, 1996. Full name: Abbas Ali Hatami.
Graduated from the college of Dramatic Arts. Began his professional
career as writer of short TV screenplays and also as playwright. Among
his plays are: The Demon and the Bald Hassan, Adam and Eve, The
Fisherman's Story, City of Oranges, Talisman and Silk. Began his film
career in 1970 by writing and directing The Bald Hassan. In subsequent
years he developed a personal filmmaking style that was characterised by
melodious dialogues, traditional Iranian ambiance created through
architecture and set design. His last film, World Champion Takhti,
remained unfinished because of the director's death.
