"Qaysar" was
the first film of the Iranian Cinema to bring the major part
of the middle class to the movie theaters to watch a Film-e
Farsi (Persian film); it changed the existing class division
of the moviegoers into viewers of foreign films and those of
Persian films. Of course "Qaysar" also satisfied the tastes
of such other viewers of Persian films as the urban workers
and the migrant peasants. Thus "Qaysar" was the first
Iranian film to bring both common and special audiences to
the movie theater.
"Qaysar" was
the first Iranian film of the 1340s (1960s) which sold well
with a tragic ending. It changed the geography of the
Iranian films' stories: following "Qaysar", the poor
neighborhoods became the main setting for the Iranian films.
"Qaysar" familiarized the common moviegoer with political
concepts and idioms, it set a trend and determined the
direction of the Iranian Cinema in the 1350's (1970's). The
hero of the Persian Film changed character from a lumpen
resigned to fate to a justice-seeking lumpen fighting
against fate with a knife. Again the socio-political
conditions of the late 40's contributed greatly to the
popularity of "Qaysar", such conditions that can be
evaluated by considering the growth of the urban middle
class, increase in leisure time, global and political
influences, and the growth of religious tendencies in the
society.
