Faramarz Assef - A native of (Abadan) Iran, is an internationally renowned Iranian music artist, and an Iranian National Track and Field champion athlete. As the Iranian national record holder in triple jump (16.08 meters) since 1974, he is the only Iranian national athlete that was both capable, and successful, in merging triumphant success in both art and sport - gaining the respect of millions of people both in Iran, and the rest of the world; essentially the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia. He was also a bronze medalist in the same event at the Asian Games that were held in Tehran - Iran in 1974. Faramarz Assef was then awarded an athletic scholarship through The University of Southern California Track Team from 1976 to 1980 where he also graduated with a Bachelor degree in Architecture. In his music, Faramarz Assef recognizes and nourishes the true Iranian culture, blending lyrics about identity, culture, love and rich Iranian heritage, with a fine variety of ethnic instruments that blends with many recognized rhythms from around the world including Flamenco, South American Rumba, Afro- Cuban Salsa, Jamaican Reggae, American Hip Hop, European Pop Rock Fusion and last but not least Iranian New Age, as well as 6/8 Rhythms. These exotic influences create world music fusion that embraces the traditional middle-eastern melodies together with the well known rhythms of the world.
